Periodontal Therapy

Healthy gums are the foundation of a strong smile.

Hygiene services

Periodontal therapy involves a deep cleaning process that removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line. When plaque and bacteria build up, it can lead to gum disease, causing inflammation, bleeding, and – left untreated – even tooth loss.

This treatment helps to reduce gum inflammation, prevent further damage, and, in some cases, reverse the effects of early-stage gum disease. Our experienced dental team will also provide tailored advice on the best home care practices, including brushing, flossing, and lifestyle habits to support your ongoing gum health.

Periodontal Therapy FAQs

Periodontal therapy is a specialised treatment designed to manage and treat gum disease. It involves deep cleaning procedures, such as scaling and root planing, to remove plaque and bacteria from beneath the gum line.

If you experience symptoms such as bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, gum recession, or loose teeth, you may have gum disease. A consultation with our dental team will help determine if periodontal therapy is right for you.

The cost of periodontal therapy varies depending on the severity of your gum disease and the treatments required. During your consultation, we will provide a personalised treatment plan, including cost estimates.

At Vitality Dental Care, periodontal therapy is available on a private basis only.

Treatment time varies depending on the extent of gum disease. Some patients may require multiple appointments for effective treatment. Your dentist will outline a clear treatment plan during your consultation.

Hygienists are trained professionals who not only will professionally remove bacterial build up, tartar and staining but also show you how to maintain good oral health at home. They will give you bespoke advice on how to get the most from your home care routine and show you how to use different aids such as floss, interdental brushes, and electric toothbrushes so you can maintain a healthy smile.

While periodontal therapy is highly effective in managing and improving gum health, ongoing maintenance and good oral hygiene practices are essential to prevent recurrence. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings will help keep your gums healthy in the long term.
